GPA Calculator
Calculate weighted GPA based on grades and credit hours across your courses.
What This Calculator Does
This calculator computes your Grade Point Average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale using weighted grade points multiplied by credit hours. It is ideal for U.S.-style grading systems where each course has assigned credit hours.
Formula
GPA = Σ(Grade Point × Credit Hours) ÷ Σ(Credit Hours)
Example
Problem: You took 3 courses: Math (grade 3.7, 3 credits), English (grade 3.3, 4 credits), and Science (grade 3.9, 3 credits). What is your GPA?
Solution:
Math: 3.7 × 3 = 11.1
English: 3.3 × 4 = 13.2
Science: 3.9 × 3 = 11.7
Total Quality Points = 11.1 + 13.2 + 11.7 = 36.0
Total Credits = 3 + 4 + 3 = 10
GPA = 36.0 ÷ 10 = 3.60
Answer: Your weighted GPA is 3.60.
Interpreting Your GPA
- 4.0 Scale: 3.7-4.0 is excellent, 3.3-3.69 is very good, 3.0-3.29 is good
- Credit Hours: Courses with more credit hours have a greater impact on your GPA
- Limitations: Different institutions use different grade scales. Always verify your institution's grading policy.
